Problems continue on Maple Street; Six arrested by Kosciusko Police on Saturday

KOSCIUSKO — In August, concerned residents of Maple Street in Kosciusko spoke at a Kosciusko Board of Aldermen meeting. They were concerned for their safety.

The problems continued Saturday as the Kosciusko Police Department arrested six more after an incident occurred.

They are: Dorothy Moore, 41, arrested for disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and trespassing; Sammy David Ellis Jr., 44, for contempt of court, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace; Ebony Audrea Alston, 19, arrested for disturbing the peace; Latonya Riley, 23, disturbing the peace, public profanity, and resisting arrest; Sammy Dammy Moore, 21, contempt of court, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace; Shantellia Ellis, 22, resisting arrest, simple assault on a police officer, disturbing the peace, and public profanity.

“Maple Street was quiet until recently – Until the new residents arrived,” KPD Chief R.J. Adams said. “I sympathize with the people that have lived there for a long time.”

Adams said “sooner or later the law is going to catch up” with the trouble makers.

During the Saturday incident, additional backup from the KPD and the Attala County Sheriff’s Department was called as well as the county constables.

While no gun play was involved, Adams said there are a lot of children  on that street and in time someone could get hurt.

Adams said there for awhile, KPD units were responding to the area daily.

In August, residents said they feared leaving their homes due to trespassing and malicious activities.

All six were arrested by KPD Capt. David White, Lt. Robert Land and officer Jerry Coleman.
