KOSCIUSKO —
The Kosciusko Mayor and Board of Aldermen continued discussing the possible adoption of the sagging pants ordinance during the August 7 meeting.
Mayor Jimmy Cockroft said all comments he had received had been in favor of a sagging pants ordinance, where people were fined for wearing their pants below their backside.
The aldermen along with Kosciusko Police Chief R.J. Adams talked about the enforcement of ordinance.
Adams said in the case of juveniles with sagging pants, officers would have to pick up them up, take them to the police department and then call their parents.
Like with the curfew ordinance, Adams said they fine the parent when an underage teen is lurking after hours.
“If you get into someone’s back pocket, then maybe they will make their child dress right,” Adams said.
If you believe that something is in the best interest of the city, then you have to take a stand and do it, Alderman Robert Ellis said.
“I don't like it (sagging pants), but like the mayor, I’ve had mixed emotions about it,” Ellis said. “I think this is good one (ordinance).
Alderman Tim Kyle said he thought the ordinance adoption will make people more aware and cause them to pull their pants up.
The board approved the following:
–Extend an uncleaned property hearing for 406 Moore Street since the property has come under new ownership.
–Annual agreement with Data Systems Management
