Supes give the nod at looking at grant funding for projects

The Attala County Supervisors granted economic development officials including Kosciusko Attala Development Corporation President Steve Zea and Steve Russell with the North Central Planning Commission to go after grant funding for a regional jail and an emergency command center that would house 911 operations and the central fire station.

They also plan to meet with Congressman Bennie Thompson’s Greenwood office about the project in the coming weeks.

The board took under advisement a presentation made by John Slater with Employee Benefit Services Inc.

Slater asked the board to consider using his new company as the administrator of the supplemental insurance plan.

The county currently uses Gulf Guarantee.

Slater, who previously worked for GG, said he is a third party administrator just like his former company and that many of the GG customers are using his new company.

There would be no change in the fee the county would pay for switching companies.

The supervisors also took under advisement the newly open position of Justice Court deputy clerk. The job recently became open after the departure of Carrie Sims.

The board approved the following:

– Payment to Gardner Engineering in the amount of $40,573.47

– Apply for Emergency Medical Services Grant for 2010.

– Pay dues of $500 for Chancery Clerk Association for 2010.

– Pay Kevin Null $930 for Justice Court.

–School bus turnarounds for Johnny Barksdale, Minnie Clark, Danny Doty, Dennyeth Ferguson, Keith Jones, Jimmy and Joyce Magarity, Harvey Olive, Evon Sallis and Jamie Wilkinson.

–Emergency Management Director Danny Townsend to travel to Philadelphia for a conference.
