KOSCIUSKO —
The Whippets of Kosciusko High School opened the season with a 20-10 win over homestanding Terry on Friday night.
Kosy was one of seven area high schools to begin 2010 on a winning note.
Williams-Sullivan, which broke a 43-game losing streak by winning its last game of 2009, now had a two-game winning streak thanks to a 6-0 win over West Lincoln on Friday night. Ackerman used a 6-yard touchdown run by Dakota Brashier and a two-point conversion run by K.J. Woods to beat Starkville Academy 8-6 in overtime on Thursday.
Other Friday night action saw McAdams blank Thomastown 27-0, No. 1-ranked Durant beat S.V. Marshall 47-0, Central Holmes roll by Sharkey-Issaquena 46-0, and Winona Christian down Carroll Academy 26-7.
Other games saw Pisgah defeat Ethel 47-30, Weir fall to Hamilton 42-0 and South Delta defeat J.J. McClain 36-20.
This coming week's schedule has Kosciusko hosting Yazoo County, Ethel entertaining Noxapater, Williams-Sullivan visiting McAdams, Central Holmes hosting Clinton Christian, J.J. McClain visiting Philadelphia, Durant traveling to Ackerman, Winona Christian hosts Humphreys Academy, and French Camp opens its season at home against Montgomery County on Friday night.
Thursday night sees Weir playing host to Eupora.
