KOSCIUSKO —
Since attending meetings on the state level, Kosciusko City School Superintendent Dr. Tony McGee told the school board that there was going to be a standard way to conduct teacher evaluations coming soon.
During the Monday night meeting, McGee said there would be training for administrators to attend and there would be a template or guide where teachers would be graded.
McGee said he thought this would be ideal because across the state teachers would all be evaluated by the same standard.
Teachers would be evaluated seven times a year.
“Principals are going to become very busy in the classroom,” he said.
There would also be standard evaluations for administrators and superintendents.
“I think this is a good thing,” McGee said. “Everyone has a clear understanding on how they are doing.”
Test scores
McGee told the board that he was very proud of the district’s state test scores.
Kosciusko Upper Elementary was graded as an “A” with Kosciusko Junior High receiving a “B” and High School awarded a “C.”
The district over all was rated a “B.”
He told the board that the district ranked sixth out of 152 school districts and plan was in place to help meet “growth” at the high school level and improve the high school’s rating.
“The big picture at the high school is to meet growth,” McGee said. “There is no reason why all of our schools can’t be star schools.”
Students have been given a projected score on the state tests and teachers are working with the students to make sure their goals are reached, he said.

–Kindergarten students to attend Lazy Acres in Chunky December 5.
–Mrs. Biggers’ class to attend Catch-A-Dream change collection competition on October 22.
–Kosciusko Middle Quest students to attend the “True Story of the Three Little Pigs” in Meridian January 15.
–Mrs. Corbett and Mrs. Lindsay’s classes to attend Mississippi State University and sing instructional songs to Dr. and Mrs. Bill Hood in November.
–Travel for the following sports: high school and junior high school basketball, high school and junior high baseball, fast pitch softball, tennis, golf and junior high track.
–Coach Terry and Coach Crowell to attend the Mid-South fast pitch coaching clinic in Philadelphia.
–Special needs teachers to attend workshop for alternate assessment in Greenville. They are Lindsay Dickerson, Pam Patton, Renee Cox, Tessa Horn, Brandy Hood, Jana Wallforth and Amanda Medine.
–Sara Williams to attend mathematics/common core workshop in Pearl.
–Permission for Myndi Oliver to attend the MSTA Convention/science workshop in Jackson.
–Sandy McBride and Beth Kyle to attend SAM conference in Biloxi.
–Temporary easement and agreement between Whitney Howard and Benita Furr and the Attala County Board of Supervisors.

Aisle of Honor: Myers to speak at Memorial Day event

Students at Koscusko Lower Elementary enjoyed Field Day activities May 17 on the school’s playground. Activities included: three-leg race, basketball toss, hula-hooping, playing on the playground equipment, and other relay-type activities.

Ride of Silence held in Kosciusko
Cyclists gathered in Downtown Kosciusko May 15 to take part in the National Ride of Silence. The mission of the world wide ride is to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road, and provide awareness of bicycling safety.
