Four-county alliance in the works

KOSCIUSKO — The mayors of Carthage, Kosciusko, Louisville and Philadelphia have been working in a joint venture to form an economic development group in hopes of bringing industry to the area in the future.

Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft said that the president of the board of supervisors from each county were involved in a recent meeting.

Over the last year, talks between the four mayors have led to the development of alliance.

With the counties intersecting at the area known as “Four Corners,” Cockroft said it made sense to join together in the hopes of bringing some industrial development to the area.

Cockroft said it is not unusual for a group of several cities and counties to develop in these hard economic times.

The Golden Triangle Development LINK handles the economic development and industrialization of Starkville and Oktibbeha County, Columbus and Lowndes County and to West Point and Clay County. A plan for the alliance will be announced soon.
