KOSCIUSKO —
Friday, Saturday and Sunday promises to be a Merry Fall Weekend with a series of events and open house planned by merchants on the downtown courthouse square and support by the and City of Kosciusko.
Fourth and fifth grade students at Upper Elementary and Presbyterian Day School were asked to submit posters depicting the square and a theme for the weekend promotion. Winners were Garrett Dunn, Hannah Keith and Jeffrey Jones. Mia Munoz’s Merry Fall Weekend poster was chosen as the theme for the event.
Merry Fall Weekend activities will kickoff on Friday with activities ending with the annual open house held by merchants on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 o’clock.
Participating merchants are Holly Millikan Interiors, Claude Julian’s, Josephine’s, Traditions and Trends, Bloomers, Doty’s Furniture, Pickle’s Drug Store, Gemday Jewelers and Patterson Jewelers. They will remain open until 8 p.m. Friday and until 5 p.m. Saturday. Café on the Square, normally closed on Saturday, will be open.
In association with the weekend event, sponsors include the Attala Historical Society, Becky Lawrence Design Group, Central MS Office Supply Co., City of Kosciusko, Tyler King and Ryder, Asiel’s, M&F Bank.
Featured on Friday will be the annual Beehive Marketplace to be held on Friday, 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center. Winning posters by fourth and fifth grade students will be displayed.
Class Reunion will provide music on the square Friday evening. Refreshments will be offered at Becky Lawrence Design Group on Friday.
On Saturday, complimentary breakfast will be offered 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Rib Alley.
Rebecca and Joe Doty and several friends from Jackson with whom they enjoy dancing, will perform Saturday afternoon on the square.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Allen Watts and Junior Ables will offer horse drawn carriage rides at no charge with Cole and Anne Windham serving as guides. Rides will begin at the gazebo on the west side of the square, go along Brantley Street and Tipton Street and enter the Kosciusko City Cemetery to visit the statue at the grave of Laura Kelly, then by the Kelly-Ivey house on E. Jefferson. Other sites will include the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center, and historic homes along the route before ending at the statue of Gen. Taddeusz Kosciuszko in the Bi-centennial Park on South Natchez Street.
At Sunday’s open house beginning at 1 p.m., refreshments will be offered by each merchant and discounts will be given on purchases.

Outside movie planned at Strand Thursday
Got a date June 13? The Kosciusko Main Street, a division of the Kosciusko Attala Development Corporation, will be hosting a “Movies Under The Stars,” outside The Strand Theater on North Madison Street, just off the historic Downtown Square in Kosciusko.
