Weir falls to 0-2 with loss to Eupora

WEIR — Eupora used touchdown runs of 18 yards by Deshawn Starks and 13 yards by Vandy Smith to turn back a Weir comeback attempt on the way to a 40-14 win on Thursday night at Marion Kelley Field.

Eupora jumped out to a 24-0 lead, only to have Weir use a prolific passing attack to cu the Eagles advantage to 24-14.

The first Weir touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Jimarrian Woodard late in the first half that was set up by a 35-yard pass from J.R. Hall to Rashad Carter.

The Lions cut it to 24-14 with 5:23 left in the third quarter on its first possession of the second half when Hall hit Carter with a 50-yard scoring strike. Woodard ran in the two-point conversion.

Hall hit on 8-of-14 passes for 157 yards for the Lions, while Carter had four catches for 106 yards and Mario Hemphill had three receptions for 51 yards.

The Lions, now 0-2 on the season, have an open date next week, before beginning Region 3-1A play at home against Thomastown.
