KOSCIUSKO —
The jury returned a guilty verdict less than 30 minutes after the trial concluded on March 14 with Antonio Maurice Parks being sentenced to 15 years in prison for a possession of cocaine charge. After the completion of his jail time, he will serve five years probation.
The length of the trial was several hours long.
The jury was comprised of seven women and five men.
Those entering guilty pleas on March 13 were:
– James Christopher Erving, manufacturing marijuana, three years suspended sentence.
– Christopher Williams Jr., burglary of a building other than a dwelling, five years supervised probation.
– Daquan Keshea Wade, placed in drug court and non-adjudicated status for three years.
– Bobby Daniel Taylor, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one year with nine years post-release supervision.
– James Curry Moore, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, 20 days with nine years post-release supervision.
On Monday, Rodick Jerone Jackson was sentenced to one month and five years post-release supervision for attempted burglary. He was originally charged with burglary of a building other than a dwelling.

Ride of Silence held in Kosciusko
Cyclists gathered in Downtown Kosciusko May 22 to take part in the National Ride of Silence. The mission of the world wide ride is to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road, and provide awareness of bicycling safety.

Jeffrey Woods was elected as Kosciusko Ward 4 alderman on May 7. Woods received 90 votes to fellow challenger Earl Kern’s 66.

Monday’s arrests included:
– Tiffany Tierra Fletcher, 20, was arrested for first offense shoplifting on M.L.K. Drive by Capt. Herbert Dew. -
City considers using service to find retailers
With the current economy and the merger of Merchants and Farmers Bank and Renasant Bank, Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft presented the idea of hiring a firm to aid in the recruitment of retailers during the board of aldermen meeting at city hall May 7.
