KOSCIUSKO —
Janie Palmertree is a creator. She paints. She designs her own patterns and has made clothing for her children and grandchildren for years.
A self-professed “doodling” artist, Palmertree along with business partner Karen McDonald dreamed up a business – Doodles and Dreams Designs – that all began in Palmertree’s small space upstairs in her home.
McDonald was invited to Palmertree’s home along with her family for dinner and when she saw Palmertree’s sewing room she was amazed.
“She had the cutest fabrics, patterns and clothes up there,” McDonald said.
A former Real Estate agent, McDonald knew all Palmertree needed was a push and their online custom children’s clothing business was up and going.
However, they soon outgrew home office and found themselves with a store front, the old Parker Shoe Store and more recently Anticipations Creations, in Downtown Kosciusko.
Opening on Friday morning, Palmertree explained that they will not only make custom hand-made clothing from children to women’s sizes but they will also offer quality consignment clothing.
Customers will be able to create their one-of-a-kind creation by selecting a pattern and fabric, Palmertree said.
And Palmertree will whip it up in no time.
If you don’t see anything you like in their store, you can bring in your own patterns and material.
Handmade clothes are just the tip of the iceberg for Doodles and Dreams. They will also offer bows, headbands, bibs, handbags, appliques and embroidery.
The duo also hopes to offer a children’s shoe line as well.
In the near future, Palmertree said she would love to hold children’s tea parties complete with hats and feather boas as well as painting parties where children can create their own artwork.
The store will be open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with appointments for fittings from 8-10 a.m. For more information, call 289-7591 or go online at http://doodlesanddreamsdesign.blogspot.com/
