The Lady Whippets of Kosciusko High School are guaranteed a spot in the play-in round of the MHSAA Class 4A State Tournament on Feb. 15, thanks to the No. 2-seeding they earned going into this week's Region 4-4A tournament.
The six-team region event gets underway on Tuesday, with the top four teams moving onto the play-in rounds. The top two seeds in the boys and girls brackets have first-round byes, which automatically qualifies them for one of the top four spots.
The team that make the finals of the region tournament will host first-round play-in games for the girls on Feb. 15 and the boys on Feb. 16. The third an fourth place teams will have to travel.
The Region 4-4A Tournament is set to open on Tuesday with the fourth-seeded Kosciusko boys taking on No. 5 seed Amory at 8:30 p.m.
The 4 p.m. game on Tuesday has the Louisville girls taking n Noxubee County, while the Noxubee County and Caledonia boys meet at 5:30 p.m. The 7 p.m. girls game has Amory taking on Caledonia.
On Thursday the Lady Whippets will face the winner of the Amory-Caledonia game at 7 p.m. The 4 p.m. girls game has top-seeded Houston facing the Louisville-Noxubee County winner.
The winner of the Kosy-Amory boys game takes on Houston at 5:30, while Louisville takes on the Caledonia-Noxubee County boys winners at 8:30.
The girls consolation game is set for 4 p.m. Friday with the championship game set for 7 p.m. The boys consolation game tips at 5:30 p.m. with the boys title game set for 8:30 p.m.
