Fifty-two-year-old Daniel Tavares, owner of Tavares Motors, was found dead in his Highway 12 East office building Friday at 7:30 p.m., said Kosciusko Police Investigator Curtis Pope.
Tavares’ death has been ruled as a homicide, said Attala County Coroner Kay Robertson.
The Miss. Crime Scene Unit and the Miss. Bureau of Investigations were both dispatched to the scene and are aiding the Kosciusko Police Department in the investigation, Pope added.
The department has received the autopsy results, but has yet to release them due to the ongoing investigation.
“He was a good-natured guy,” said long-time friend Bobby Edwards of Kosciusko. “He was a good of a person as you would want to be around. He never harmed anyone.”
Pope refused to comment on whether Tavares' death was related to Thursday’s armed robberies.
“We have questioned one individual, but he is not a suspect as this time,” said Kosciusko Police chief R.J. Adams. The department currently has no suspects, Adams added.
The Kosciusko Police Department is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension, arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in Tavares’ murder. Anyone with information about Tavares' death is asked to call Adams at the police department at 289-3131.
Anyone interested in donating money to the Tavares reward fund is asked to call City Hall at 289-1226.
