Attala County Sheriff William Lee said assault charges have been filed on Sonny Merle Bates, 60, of Choctaw County and his son, Billy Bates, of McCool, for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old on Saturday.
Lee said the incident occurred on Attala County Road 2146, where the teen’s vehicle and the Bates’ vehicle both left the road but there was no collision.
In the report, Lee said the teen asked the Bates if they needed help and that’s when the physical altercation occurred.
Lee said the teen’s jaw was swollen.
Other incidents
Larry Odom reported he heard gunshots from his home on Attala County Road 4202 on Sunday, Lee said.
Odom found his Ford truck had been hit by one of the shots.
Lee said the incident is under investigation but there are no suspects at this time.
On Saturday, Dana Thompson reported to ACSD that her brother Shaun was causing a disturbance.
He is charged with disturbance of family and public drunk.
