‘Danny Jim’ gets 35 years in prison

Daniel “Danny Jim” Goodman Jim pleaded guilty in Attala County Circuit Court on Thursday, Aug. 28, for shooting one woman and injuring another at the Mexican bar on Highway 43 North in March.

Jim will serve a total of 35 years in prison on the charges of aggravated assault and manslaughter. He was originally charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Jim shot and killed Deneetria Schrock, 22, of Neshoba County. She sustained two gunshot wounds with one of which was in the head. Also, injured was a 15-year-old Choctaw female with a wound in the side and one of her legs.

An altercation between Jim and Schrock inside the bar led to the shooting.

According to the Attala County Sheriff’s Department, Jim was asked to leave the establishment but instead he waited for the two women to come out and then shot them with a .22 rifle.

After the shooting, Jim fled north on Highway 43 about nine miles, where he wrecked his Dodge Stratus and fled into the woods.

Jim, who sustained minor injuries from the wreck, turned himself into deputies about 9 a.m. with the aid of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Unit.

Others entering guilty pleas on Thursday, Aug. 28, were:
