Edinburg's Wooten no-hits Ethel
Edinburg’s Mitchell Wooten tossed a no-hitter against visiting Ethel on Monday night, leading the Eagles to a 2-0 win and the Region 6-1A championship.
Edinburg will face Salem in the first round of the MHSAA Class 1A baseball playoffs, while Ethel, now 15-9 on the season, will take on Bogue Chitto.
The Tigers, who finished second in Region 6-1A with an 8-2 mark, will visit Bogue Chitto on Friday, then play host to the Bobcats on Saturday for the second and third (if necessary) games of the opening round playoff series.
While Wooten was striking out 12 Tigers and walking only one on the night, Glace Rone was also pitching well for Ethel. Rone only allowed three hits and both runs were unearned.
