The Attala County Sheriff’s Department apprehended a Sallis man on drug charges Wednesday, April 15, on the campus of McAdams High School.

Demetrius Winters, of Sallis, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sale, controlled substance on school grounds and possession of drugs 1,500 feet from a church. All are felonies.

Sheriff William Lee said his department was alerted by McAdams High School Principal Katie Jamison about a group of males that had formed outside the school.

Lee said as they approached the school a car tried to flee the scene but was cut off by Deputy Silento McMorris.

Upon suspicion, the vehicle was search and several dime bags of marijuana was found, Lee said.

All four males were taken to the Attala County Jail.

Lee said the three juveniles were released to their parents or guardians and that the school will handle their punishment.

In addition to the drugs, Lee said there was a small amount of cash seized along with the 1996 Monte Carlo.
