Attala County youth can find summer jobs through program

Attala County's young people have the opportunity to get a summer job.

More than 1,300 summer jobs will be provided for young men and women ages 14 – 24 this summer as part of the “Summer Coin Crew” summer youth employment opportunity program being administered by the Mississippi Partnership Local Workforce Area through Three Rivers Planning and Development District in Pontotoc and in cooperation with Northeast Planning and Development District in Booneville, North Central Planning and Development District in Winona, and the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District in Starkville.

The program, which is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, kicks off today (May 1) in 27 North Mississippi counties with the initiation of the application process. Applications will be available at each Chancery Clerk’s office, City Hall and the local WIN Job Centers. Applications are also available on-line at www.trpdd.com.

These applications must be completed and returned with the necessary documentation on or before May 15th to the Chancery Clerk’s office, City Hall and the local WIN Job Centers. County Coordinators will collect the applications at each site and submit them for certification.

Qualified applicants will be notified of their acceptance into the program and assigned a date and location to receive orientation. Upon completion of the orientation process they will then be assigned a worksite and begin work on June 15, 2009. “We expect the program to have a duration of approximately six to eight weeks with some older youth possibly continuing in the program into the fall,” Three Rivers representative Bill Renick said. For further information you may contact the WIA staff at Three Rivers Planning and Development District in Pontotoc at 662-489-2415.

This program is offered for youths in the following counties: Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clay, DeSoto, Grenada, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Lowndes, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Union, Webster, Winston and Yalobusha.
