Cockroft receives Matthew Holdiness scholarship

Senior first baseman/pitcher Sam Cockroft received the Matthew Holdiness Scholarship at the Kosciusko High School athletic banquet that was held last month.

The $1,500 scholarship is awarded to a senior KHS baseball player each year by the family of Matthew Holdiness.

Established in 2004, the Matthew Holdiness Foundation is a non-profit charitable corporation organized and all times operated to provide college scholarships to qualified and deserving KHS baseball players.

The recipient wil possess good moral character, scholastic aptitude and a commitment to high school baseball as shown by enthusiasm for the sport, dependability in playing, and support of teammates.

Matthew Holdiness, the son of Dr Gary and Donna Holdiness, was born on Oct. 15, 1986 and died on July 28, 2004 in a traffic accident.

Clark Pullen was the 2008 award winner.
