The sixth annual Bluegrass/Country Gospel Concert on Saturday night, March 20, at 6 p.m. in the Attala County Coliseum is promised to be everything from eclectic to electrifying.
The night’s performance will begin with the Mississippi-based Jason Boone Band. Next to perform will be Starkville based Nash Street, the band that’s no stranger to the area. They have been a presence at every bluegrass concert sponsored by the Attala Historical Society.
Closing the evening will be Mountain Heart, a band that has either won or been nominated for multiple Grammy awards. The band is described as having fearlessly revolutionized the way acoustic music can be presented and played.
Nash Street has chosen the concert to release their latest CD, “Between Hope and Heartache.” The album, which has been in the works since late 2009, contains music that artfully displays Nash Street’s new and unique twist on the grassroots country genre.
Nash Street was in town Friday for a visit to Kosciusko High School where they visited band students giving them a sample of the Saturday night performance and participated in a question and answer time.
During the visit, Nash Street donated $100 to the music fund of Big Red Band. A band spokesman said the donation was a thank you and an acknowledgement to Kosciusko and the community for being supportive during their development over the years. “We just wanted to give back to the community” was the consensus of Nash Street.
Tickets to the concert are now on sale and may be bought by contacting the Kosciusko-Attala Development Corporation office, 289-2981 or Judi Bell, 289-4761. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Children 10 or under will be admitted free of charge.
