Maple Street residents concerned about safety

KOSCIUSKO — Concerned residents on Maple Street addressed the Kosciusko Mayor and Board of Aldermen during the August 7 meeting about the lack of safety they feel in their homes.

Residents said they feared leaving their homes due to trespassing and malicious activities by two families in the neighborhood.

“Half the time you can’t drive down the street,” Pam a resident, said. “Or they are cussing you out or the next morning you come out and somebody done opened your gas tank or put your tires on flat.”

“I have a kid over here now and I have nieces and nephews,” Pam  added.  “I do appreciate the police coming over there but I feel like something else should be done. We wish that our neighborhood would be back like it was.”

Kosciusko Police Chief R.J. Adams encouraged residents to contact the department when trouble arises.

“If they are breaking the law, I encourage anyone to put papers on them,” Adams said. “Just let them (other residents) know to report what they see and we will be glad to take an affidavit. Trust me, we want it to stop just like you do.”

“We are trying to protect where we live. We are trying to follow the chain of command, that’s why we are here tonight,” Pam said. “You’ve got teenagers with bats beating up a grown person. This man is just checking on another family,  because we are all like family.”

The group of residents and city officials agreed to continue to work together to get the situation resolved.
