KOSCIUSKO —
McAdams High School Football coach Kenneth Nelson was commended by Attala County School Board Member Christie Moody for looking at the needs of team during the August 6 school board meeting.
They approved $5,500 to purchase equipment – Video editing software, headsets, three-bay duplicator, DVD player, two-man sled, projector and screen.
Approximately the same amount of money had been given to Ethel during the field house project.
Nelson told the board he selected items based on the needs of the football program.
School board member Mack Willie Clark said, “We done spent close to $1 million dollars at Ethel. I know they got $5,300 to do what they need to do.”
“We are going to base McAdams on that and we don’t have anything at all,” Clark said.
ACSB President Linda Massey explained to Clark that Nelson’s needs were being met.
“We need to get a list of things that he needs down there,” Clark said. “Ethel’s done already got them.”
Willie Perteet explained that Clark may have thought Nelson was being too modest with his list.
Superintendent Bryan Weaver said that they were about to come on to a new budget year and coming off a $1 million dollar building project.
“We don’t want to give away what we don’t have right now,” Weaver said. “This is his list.”
Nelson told the board that he didn’t feel like he was being sold short on his needs for the players.
“Over time we are going to have to give them a facility,” Weaver said. “Is it going to be like the field house at Ethel? Who knows?”
“You can’t disregard the building they do have,” Weaver said. “There are some things that can be done to that building. The best thing to do is give him what he’s got to have to start the season.”
“Comparing schools has been the biggest Achilles (heel) of our board,” Weaver said. “We are one district with four schools and they all have different needs.”
The board approved the following items:
– Financials: Claims, 2011-2012 amended budget, club and activity accounts and the final payment to Mayrant and Associates on the Ethel field house.
–Arnedra Floyd and Cheryl Huntley’s resignations.
– Lorean Kilbert as McAdams assistant principal.
–Hire Jennifer Cheek as an English instructor and Tasha M. Grantham as a long term substitute at McAdams. Bus drivers and substitutes were also hired.
–Athletic schedules
