Attala County Sheriff Tim Nail said he wanted to make the Attala County Board of Supervisors aware of some changes within the department.

During the supervisors Monday board meeting, Nail said he was building up the reserve deputy program.

He explained that he would be outfitting four deputies with the use of drug forfeiture funds.

Nail said while on patrol the deputy would have a partner in the vehicle and could assist in emergency calls.

Currently, a deputy rides alone while on patrol and has to call for backup when needed.

Another change to the department is the promotion of deputy Stephen Teague to investigator.

Nail said Teague would be a third investigator in addition to Randy Blakely and Zelie Shaw.

A third investigator would give the department an edge in working cases, he said.

Nail added that there would not be anyone in the chief deputy role but in the event, that he is out of the office, Shaw would be the next in command.

Attala County Fire Chief Roy Williams said Nicholas Cox had been promoted to captain.

Both Teague and Cox will receive pay increases.
