Escapee took Attala County truck

KOSCIUSKO — Bruce Harrell, who was recently recaptured after escaping from the Holmes-Humphreys Correctional Facility, stole a vehicle from an Attala County man.

Attala County Sheriff William Lee said Harrell took Joey McClellan’s truck from Highway 440 after escaping from the prison.

Lee said the vehicle was recovered by New Orleans authorities and the truck had been burned.

Holmes County authorities said Harrell had dieted long enough to squeeze through an air vent and escape.

Authorities say Harrell had made a dummy out of sheets and an old uniform.

Lee said Harrell has been charged with arson and grand theft auto.

The case is expected to go before the Attala County grand jury in August.

Lee said he was assisted on the case by Investigator Zelie Shaw and U.S. Marshalls.
