KOSCIUSKO —
The proposed drug screening policy for the Kosciusko City School District was reviewed by the school board at its Monday meeting with plans to have the policy finalized at the April meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Tony McGee, said following approval by the board in April the policy will go into effect July 1, 2013.
The purpose of the drug screening program is to aid and assist students. It is not intended to unduly interfere with the student’s private life or to bring hardship, but rather to protect the student’s well being and threat of others who are associated with extracurricular activities or permitted privileges in the school district, the policy states.
According to the policy as reviewed by the board, it specifies that hair and urine testing will be done on a random basis. A student that tests positive will not be allowed to participate in any extracurricular event or permitted privilege for 21 days. A second positive test will bring a 90 day suspension and a third, a one year suspension of extracurricular activities. The policy further states that a urine test will be used for the return to activities.
The board gave its approval to allow Dr. McGee to begin negotiation for purchase of the Gordon Alexander property on North Wells Street, located adjacent to property the district already owns and to pay taxes on the Jo Mary Maxcy property which has also recently been purchased.
In other action, Josh Johnson was hired as janitor at Lower Elementary and Ethan Pettit for grounds and maintenance.
The board gave its approval to use April 1 as a holiday using a day designated for inclement weather.
The board’s April 8 meeting will be held in the high school library.

• Permission to delete and dispose of items from inventory and remove from general ledger and dispose of according to MS Code
• Permission for Peggy Ables, Paula Terry, Denae Cain, Joan Crosby, and Juanita Parkinson to attend the Common Core State Standard Training for Math and Language Arts April 11-12 in Pearl.
• Travel for Karla Tate, Jennifer Tillman, Manza Blaine, and Erica Peterson to attend MSHA annual conference in Jackson on March 25-27.
• Permission for Cassandra Fulton, John Mark Cain, and Shane Rodgers to attend Millsaps College Summer Principals’ Institute at Millsaps College in Jackson June 9-14, 2013.

City considers using service to find retailers
