Col. Julian Gould Brunt

Col. (USA retired) Julian Gould Brunt, 92, of Starkville, died Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko. 

Visitation is Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 11-1 p.m. at Stonewall Chapel in Ethel with burial in the Stonewall Cemetery.   Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Col. Brunt was a veteran of World War Two, landed at Normandy on D-Day morning and fought in the campaigns of Northern France, Belgium, Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Silver Star with V for valor, the bronze star and French Croix de guerre unit citation. He rose from the rank of private, entered WWII as a Staff Sergeant and received a battle field commission to the rank of Second Lieutenant in July of 1944.

Col. Brunt served during the Korean War and was one of the first American military advisors to serve in Vietnam. His career in the United States Army was more than 30 years long and culminated in the rank of Colonel. He was a long time resident of Grenada, Mississippi.

He is survived by daughter, Carole Granger of Dothan, AL, daughter, Terra Gaile Sneed of Albuquerque, NM, daughter, Gloria Swanson of Muskegon, MI, and son, Julian Glenn Brunt of Biloxi.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen Forrest Brunt.
