Rex Fredrick Thompson, Sr.

Rex Fredrick Thompson, Sr. 69, of McCool, passed away suddenly on October 31, 2012 at his home.  Visitation will be Friday, November 2, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS.  Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Bowie Chapel Methodist Church near McCool.  Military honors and burial will be in the Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville, MS.  Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  Rev. Johnny Watkins will officiate the service. 

Mr. Thompson was born in Drew and graduated from Drew High School.  After graduation, he entered the military serving in the National Guard and United States Navy for many years.  He also served two tours in the Western Pacific during the Vietnam Conflict.  He served on the USS Hancock and USS Rowan.  He played football on several service teams and was an avid Ole Miss fan. 

After his discharge in 1970, he held numerous jobs in law enforcement in Mississippi and Arkansas receiving numerous awards.  He was a life member of the American Legion, VFW, and DAV, and served as commander of the DAV Chapter 37 and VFW Post 1983, and the Jr. Vice of VFW Post 556 in Ackerman.

After his military service, he worked at Parchman prison and was responsible for the training of other officers and most importantly the K-9 unit.  He moved to Magnolia, AR and worked as CID for the Sheriff’s department and had the Columbia County K-9 unit.  He worked and trained the best search and rescue dogs in the country.  After retiring from law enforcement, he maintained his love for animals and the outdoors.   

He was preceded in death by parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Mills Thompson; daughters, Casey Hughes (Jason) and Laura Bunch (Bryan); sons, Rex Thompson, Jr., Steve Thompson, and David Christopher (Shana); and grandchildren, Brylie Hughes, London Hughes, Catherine Bunch, Madeline Bunch, Jackson Bunch, Parker Bunch, Cooper Christopher, Eliza Christopher, and Peyton Thompson; siblings, Sally Thompson Kuzenski, Mickey Thompson, Nancy Thompson Petty, and Grover Eugene Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation in memory to the Bowie Chapel Methodist Church at P.O. Box 93, McCool, MS 39108, the DAV, or a charity of your choice.
