STURGIS — Mr. James Doss (J.D.) McDonald, 90, of Sturgis, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
J.D. was born in Clarke County, Ala., on May 23, 1922. He moved to Mississippi at the age of 4 and spent his younger adult life farming in Glen Allen. He relocated to Sturgis in 1959 and retired from Herschede Hall Clock Company.
He was a World War II veteran, having enlisted with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Sturgis Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Mr. McDonald loved to farm, fish and hunt, but his family was the most important thing in his life.
He is survived by his four daughters, Margaret McClelland (Bobby) of Sturgis, MS; Martha Palmer of Starkville, MS; Kathy Collier (Keith) of Louisville, MS; Carolyn Miller (John) of Gulfport, MS; 1 son, Clyde McDonald (Michelle) of Sturgis; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
J.D. was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Pee McDonald; his parents, Vernon Doss and Nancy Belle Rivers McDonald; four sisters and three brothers.
A visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 7, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville and Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 1-2 p.m. at Sturgis Baptist Church with the funeral immediately following at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Russell Mord and Rev. James Mills. Burial will follow in McClelland Cemetery in Sturgis.
