Jeanne Hill

Matthews, N.C. — Glinda Jean Choat Hill – “Jeanne,” 66, passed away after a long battle with pneumonia on November 28, 2012.  She was born February 8, 1946, in Delhi, La., to the late Laurence Choat and Burnette Wallace Choat.  She was additionally preceded in death by both her sister, Linda Graves, and her nephew, Larry Tucker.

Jeanne was a fun loving soul, who was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She was the type of person who would smile, even during the toughest times and would open her door to anyone.  She took life in stride and smiled all the way from her toes.

Jeanne grew up in Kosciusko.  During high school, she was a member of the 4-H, selected as outstanding senior for Attala County, and was a Farm Bureau queen at the Central Mississippi Fair.  She was also a second alternate for Miss Kosciusko. 

After high school, she attended Holmes Junior College and later Ole Miss, where she majored in elementary education.

 She was voted a top 10 beauty and captured the heart and ATO pin of Bunker Hill.  They were married on March 25, 1967. 

After graduation, Jeanne was an elementary school teacher in Batesville and Memphis, Tenn.

After leaving Memphis, Jeanne started her second career as a housewife and mother.  The couple lived in many places like Florida, Connecticut, Maryland and finally planted roots in Matthews, N.C., where they have lived since 1980.

She is survived by her soul mate, Bunker Hill, and her adoring children – daughter Renvy Hill Griffith and her husband Julian, son Jeffrey Bunker Hill and his wife Kelly, and daughter Brandy Byers Hill.  In addition she leaves behind her four grandchildren:  Ethan, Mason, Elisa and Isabel.

A memorial service will be held at the Providence Road Church of Christ, 4900 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226 on Saturday, December 8, at 5p.m.  Following the service, the family will receive friends at a Celebration of Jeanne’s life, also at the church.

Jeanne was a member of the Providence Road Church of Christ.
