Melvin Eugene Jones

Melvin Eugene Jones was born in Goodman, on December 2, 1941 to William Franklin Jones and Eula Virginia Ables Jones. He attended school in Goodman.

On April 27, 1962 he married his sweetheart, Donna Jean Shipman, in Lincoln, NE. Melvin lived in Pleasant Dale, NE with his wife, son William Jones, and daughter Betty Jean “BJ” Jones. He worked for 42 years for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a boilermaker. Melvin was Shop Steward of his local union. He spent his free time coaching softball for the senior girls team. He was also active with the men’s club where he played Santa, as well as numerous children’s organizations. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to show off his graceful two-step moves. 

In retirement, Melvin continued to love the outdoors, good food, good company, children, and his beloved puppies. Melvin fought hard for 45 days to recover from multiple medical events, but lost his battle on February 9, 2013 with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law by his side.

He is preceeded in death by his father, William Franklin Jones; mother, Eula Virgina Ables Jones;  brother, Jim Jones;  and brother, Paul Jones

Melvin is survived by his wife, Donna Jones; son William Jones and wife Angela; daughter BJ Jones and spouse Jay; grandchildren Charlene Wright, Zachary Baumgart, Sierra King and Faith Belford; brothers Walter Jones, Billy Joe Jones and wife Brenda, Lonnie Pat Jones and wife Karen; sisters, Bessie Cauthen, Bernice McCully, Eula Price; sister-in-law Becky Jones and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Services will be held at Seneasha Methodist Church Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 1p.m. with a reception to follow.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Seneasha Methodist Church Cemetery in Goodman, MS, or Tiny Paws Chihuahua Rescue Houston, TX.
