Stacy Leon Chandler

KOSCIUSKO —

Stacy Leon Chandler of Kosciusko died January 20, 2013, at St. Dominic Hospital. Services will be January 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. until service time.

Interment will be at Parkway Cemetery with National Guard rites.

Stacy was a retired wholesale grocery warehouse clerk and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and the Mississippi National Guard.

He was a native of Winona and the only child of the late Ara Tullos and Earl Chandler. He had resided in Kosciusko since 1958.

Stacy’s 40-year military service began in 1954 when he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1960, he became a part of the Mississippi National Guard, 155th Armored Brigade, 2nd Battalion Field Artillery. He was activated into the U.S. Army during the 1990-1991 Desert Shield-Desert Storm Conflict.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Kosciusko Lions Club, being named “Lion of the Year” in 1989. Stacy was a member of the Kosciusko-Attala Historical Society and a volunteer, since is opening in 1984, at the Natchez Trace Information Center. An avid golfer as long as his health permitted, he was a member of the Redbud Springs Golf and Country Club and the Tri-County Seniors Golf Tournament.

An active member of First Baptist Church, Stacy was a long-time member of the church choir, secretary of Sunday School and a member of various committees.

He was preceded in death by his parents and youngest son, Stephen Keith Chandler.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, George Ellen Taylor Chandler, a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Weldon Harris, Kosciusko; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Beth Chandler, Kosciusko; son, Ronnie Chandler, Hattiesburg; daughter-in-law, Charla Chandler Grace. Grandchildren are Cameron Harris and wife, Susan; Kristen Harris Chisholm and husband, Brent; Taylor Harris; Jeanine Chandler Collums and husband Brad; Rebecca Chandler; Evan Chandler and Jonathan Chandler, and step-grandson, Hunter Chisholm. His great-grandsons are Chandler and Payton Collums.
