Doris Allen "Mac" McCrory, 95, of Lexington, went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours on February 19, 2013.
Mr. Mac was born on December, 25, 1917 in McAdams, where he grew up. He was the son of William Prince "Bill" and Alice Gilbert McCrory. He had four brothers, Winnie, Clayton, Russ and Coleman and one sister, Iva Lee who prededed him in death.
He was a veteran of the Navy Seabees and fought in World War II. He retired from Hammett Gravel in 1985. He was an avid deer hunter with his son Jack as well as an avid gardener.
Mr. Mac leaves behind his devoted wife of 71 years, Susie Ouida McCrory. Mac and Ouida met in Lexington in 1938 and married on April 4, 1941. Their marriage produced three children.
He leaves behind his very devoted daughter and son-in-law who were always by his side until his death, Sue Mabry and Jimmy Mabry of Brandon. Sue and Jimmy also blessed him with four grandchildren, Melissa (William) Pigott of Pearl, Michele Tharp of Brandon, Michael (Casey) Mabry of Sallis and Matthew (Linzi) Mabry of Jackson. Melissa and William are the parents of two great-grandchildren; Lexi and Duncan Pigott. Michele is the parent of one great-grandson, Joe Joe Tharp. Michael and Casey are the parents of three of his great-grandchildren; Eli, Elliot and Ella Mabry. And Matthew and Linzi are the parents of one great-granddaughter, Kelsie Mabry.
Mr. Mac was also a wonderful father to two sons. His oldest son, Robert McCrory Sr. preceded him in death on January 6, 2009 at the age of 66 years old. Robert left him a legacy of two grandchildren in his sons, John Patrick (Madonna) McCrory of Ocean Springs, and Robert (Sallie) McCrory, Jr. of Dover, NH. John Patrick and Madonna are the parents of three great grandchildren, Madonna Leigh (Brian) Davis of Hampton, VA., Mallory McCrory of Ocean Springs, MS and Madelon McCrory of Hattiesburg, MS. Three great great grandchildren also will carry on his legacy as well through John Patrick, Annabelle, Vera and Olivia. Robert Jr and Sallie leave him with four great grandchildren, Kyle, Jason, Kaitleen and Colin. He also leaves behind a son, Jack (Jan) McCrory of Lexington. Jack's first wife, Earnestine, preceded Mr. Mac in death as well. From their marriage, two grandsons were born, Jerry McCrory of Nashville, TN and Kevin McCrory. Kevin preceded him in death at the age of 11 on January 12, 1982.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 21 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington, with funeral services on Friday, February 22, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Military burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Rev. Andy Ray will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Ervin Baugh, Kit Ginn, Blue Jones, Matthew Mabry, Michael Mabry, Jerry McCrory John Patrick McCrory and Joe Joe Tharp. Honorary pallbearers will be Mallory McCrory and Robert McCrory, Jr.
