Funeral services for Warren Woodrow “Duce” Steen, 87, of Vaiden were held on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Bethany Church of God near Poplar Creek, with burial in the Bethany Cemetery.
Dr. Duran Palmertree officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to Oliver Funeral Home of Winona.
Mr. Steen died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at home. He proudly served his fellow citizens for 25 years in law enforcement. He was a faithful member and Elder of Bethany Church of God where he was involved in the life of the church, most notably in physical enhancements. Mr. Steen took great pleasure in the well-being of his church. Spiritually he was present for all church services. He delighted in selling his own garden grown vegetables, an avocation that brought him much pleasure and sense of fulfillment. He was an avid football fan and served in the U.S. Army for three years during the Korean War.
Mr. Steen is survived by his three daughters, Melissa Steen Crum (Robert), Deborah Steen Smith, and Teresa Steen Marter (Ricky); two sons, Terry Lane Steen (Kim) and Gerald Don Steen (Linda); sister, Deane Jones; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with one on the way in June; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Palmertree Steen; parents, Louis Turner and Sallie Overstreet Steen; three brothers, Arlis K. Steen, Sr., Edward Noel Steen, and Dalton Eugene Steen; and two sisters, Lois Steen Overstreet and Kathryn Steen Swanson.
Mr. Steen will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, greatest daddy, and sweetest pawpaw.
Active pallbearers were Jeremy Hobbs, Brad Graham, Bryan Graham, Korey Steen, Jeffrey Steen, Keith Auttonberry, Chance Marter, Bubba Steen, and David McElroy. Honorary pallbearers were Derek Robertson, Bubba Nix, Troy Hodges, Kempe Hodges, Thomas Wade Palmertree, Basil Palmertree, Austin Hobbs, Jacob Hobbs, Jackson Acree, Landon Josey, Wyatt Graham, Noah Graham, and Crace Smith.
