Guy Conner Barrett, 87, of Spanish Fort, Ala., died April 10, 2008 at Westminister Village, an assisted living and skilled care facility. Visitation is Saturday, April 12, 5-8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Kosciusko with burial in Parkway Cemetery.
Barrett, a retired rural letter carrier with the US Postal Service, was born July 8, 1920 in McCool. A former resident of Kosciusko, he was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher for many years. His Sunday School lectures were often broadcast live on WKOZ Radio. In later years, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Pascagaoula.
He was a graduate of Mississippi State University where he majored in Agriculture and served his senior year as president of Alpha Tau Alpha, the Agricultural Education honorary fraternity. He also was a World War II veteran serving as a radio technician with the U.S. Army’s 587th Signal Depot Company in Toul, France. Mr. Barrett was a Mason for 57 years.
Survivors are his wife, Billie Wilkerson Barrett; two sons, Dr. Harris Guy Barrett and his wife, Michele of Mobile, Ala., and Roger Lee Barrett of Primm Springs, Tenn.; a daughter, Melody Reese Barrett, and her husband, Christopher Calvin Cobb of Fairfax, Va.; two sisters, Nina Christine Barrett of Tucson, Ariz., and Cora Belle Barrett Dodds of Tulsa, Okla; a granddaughter, Olivia Claire Barrett of Mobile, Ala.; and a grandson, Andrew Barrett Ratkus of Fairfax.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphord “Rafe” Bell Barrett and Cora Conner Barrett; brother, Raphord Lee Barrett; sister, Lucile Barrett, and a grandson, Harris Guy Barrett II.
Pallbearers are Kenny Dungan, Abb Henry, Harold Martin, Mac Gallaspy, Robert Alexander and Doug King.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert Autry, Gerry Mims, John Clark Love Jr., Morris Massey, Gene Richardson, Jimmy Rigby, William Roby, Ray Rutledge, Wade Simmons, Ronnie Sullivan, Burlie Tindoll, Bernice Kerr, Dr. Paul Mink and Dr. Timothy Alford.
