Izene H. "Pete" Shumaker


Izene H. “Pete” Shumaker, 86, of Kosciusko died March 14, 2010 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko.

Visitation is Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, March 17, 2010, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Kosciusko City Cemetery. Rev. Don Cook will officiate with Jordan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He was born Sept. 17, 1923 to William B. and Carrie Shumaker in Winston County. Shumaker, an Attala County native, was a graduate of Zama School and was attending East Central Community College when called in to service by the United States Marine Corps.

After discharge, he worked briefly at the United States Library of Congress and was proud to serve on the Kosciusko Police Department before taking employment at Superior Coach Corporation for several years. After leaving Superior Coach, he thoroughly enjoyed serving the public by running Downtown Gulf Service Station for many years.

Until full retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to all of the 50 states. He was a charter member of Parkway Baptist Church as well as a deacon and past Sunday School teacher.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Booth Shumaker of Kosciusko; daughters, Becky Grantham and husband Allen of Batesville, and Shelia Pumphrey and husband, John of Kosciusko; sons, Buddy Shumaker and wife, Jennifer of Corinth, and Tim Tyler and wife Pam of Duck Hill; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sister, Edna Fuller of Memphis.

Pallbearers are Sonny Roberts, Ronnie Summers, Billy Grantham, Kurt Shumaker, Jon Sumaker and Eben Pumphrey.
