Phyllis Denise Saxton, 44, of Germantown, TN, went to her home in glory on March 17, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her father Ernest Lamar Saxton, Sr. She is survived by her mother Catherine Hudgins Saxton Hardy and stepfather Louis Hardy of Kosciusko, her two siblings Ernest L. Saxton, Jr. of Memphis, TN and Carmen Brown of Germantown, her brother-in-law Robert L. Brown, Jr. and two nephews Collin and Griffin Brown also of Germantown, TN.
A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Mississippi State University, Phyllis pursued a career in kitchen design as a sales associate and designer in Memphis but later left for Dallas, Houston, and Orlando to work as a kitchen designer and sales representative for Corian. While in Orlando, Phyllis pursued and received her Master’s degree in Biblical Studies because of her love for the Lord, and although she continued a career in the secular world, she carried out a sweet ministry with all those she met.
She returned to Memphis several years ago to serve as the general manager of Highland Systems. Phyllis’s wonderful wisdom, her attention to details, her kindness toward others, and her great love of Christ showed in everything she did. Phyllis was a precious soul who touched so many lives in her short time here on earth. She often talked of the grace of God and how we too must give others grace. Her greatest desire was to share the gift of salvation with everyone she met. She made each person she encountered whether rich or poor, whether young or old-- feel her love and Christ’s love. She truly lived Jesus' greatest command, “To love the Lord with all her heart, her mind, and soul, and to love others as herself.” She will be greatly missed by so many.
Phyllis’s visitation and funeral service will be held near her childhood home. Visitation will be at Culpepper Funeral Home in Kosciusko, on Friday, March 19, from 5-7 pm.
The funeral service will be held at McAdams Baptist Church in McAdams, at 11a.m. Saturday, March 20. A memorial service celebrating Phyllis’s life will be held in Germantown, at Grace Evangelical Church on Saturday, March 27, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Grace Evangelical Church or Methodist Hospice of Memphis.
