Funeral services for Dennis E. Welch, 77. of Vaiden will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, at Shongalo Presbyterian Church in Vaiden, with burial following in the

Vaiden Cemetery in Vaiden.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 11, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.

Mr. Welch died of cancer at Grace Health and Rehab in Grenada on Sunday, December 9.

Rev. Phillip McRae will officiate.

Mr. Welch was the son of the late William Dewitt and Connie Lenora Self Welch and the widower of the late Frances Jordan "Bud" Welch. He was a retired business consultant

and a former alderman for the Town of Vaiden. He was a member of Shongalo Presbyterian Church in Vaiden, where he served in many capacities, including elder. Mr. Welch was a Mason and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, William Logue Welch; and seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis D. Welch of Grenada and James Richard Welch of Meridian; four sisters, Mae Chiappino of New York, Lorrine Branch of Pensacola, FL, Martha Clark of Winona, and Florine Williams of Gulfport; two grandchildren, Chelsea Welch Bennett of Oxford and James Edward “Jamie” Welch of Meridian; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Pallbearers will be Bruce Branch, Eric Branch, Ken McDougal, Charles Ellis, Don Welch, and Shannon Self. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present elders of Shongalo Presbyterian Church.
