DURANT — Michael Wayne Burrell, 55, died Friday, November 30, 2012 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. Visitation was held on Sunday, December 2 at First Baptist Church in Durant at noon until the service at 3 pm. Interment followed in Sallis Cemetery in Sallis. Bro. Jerry Bishop and Bro. Billy Smith officiated.

Wayne was born in Durant on April 18, 1957 to James L. and Edna C. Burrell. He had worked with Atmos Energy since 1978. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Durant.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Carol Jacobs Burrell of Durant; daughter, Jasmine M. Houser of Columbus; son, Michael Wayne Burrell, Jr (Holly) of Reagan, Tenn.; mother, Edna Burrell of Durant; brothers, Luther Burrell (Judy) of Kosciusko and Richard Burrell (Denise) of Zebulon, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, James L. Burrell.

Pallbearers were Daniel Ashley, Damon Hurst, Jimmy "Bubba" Mullen, Steven "Duck" Rucker, Bill Burrell and Charlie Myers. Southern Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.
