Gotta love coupons!

KOSCIUSKO — Over the last month and a half, I have become known as the “queen of coupons” in The Star-Herald office.

With the cost of living at an all time high, I knew something had to give.

I was tired of getting three small sacks of groceries, and health and beauty products for $50 every time I went shopping.

Thanks to TLC’s “Extreme Couponing” and a lot of Internet research by my husband, Paul, and myself, we have entered the world of couponing.

I would estimate in the last six week’s we’ve probably saved $300 with coupons, internet coupons and in-store savings and rewards.

Here are a few tips to couponing:

–Let everyone else do the work – Two sites I use are: http://www.krazycouponlady.com/ and http://www.couponmom.com/

–On http://www.coupons .com, you can print out a variety of coupons and two copies from each computer.

–Pick up a copy of the monthly magazine – "All of You." It can be found at the register in most stories. It has over $85 worth of coupons.

– Buy a paper – I get two copies of The Star-Herald and one of Sunday’s The Clarion-Ledger. I’ll pick up additional copies if we are in a different area because sometimes the coupons are different.

Several weeks ago, I did a shopping trip in Kosciusko only and saved $30 with coupons and in-store savings. It can be done locally.

I got 1.4 oz. Lady Speed Stick for 50 cents with a coupon and I also used an in-store coupon to purchase two 12-pack Coke products for $5.

One of my "All of You" coupons was $1 off/two 20 oz. Hunt's Ketchup. I got two bottles at 50 cents each.

Gain Detergent is a common staple in our house. I usually buy the largest container for $15.

After a short math equation, I was able to buy four of the 32 load bottles at 4.97 with $1 off each (Thanks to my coupons) for a total of $15.88.

I can do twice as many loads of laundry with the four small bottles versus the large one.

Fear of Big Red canceled fishing
I have said before that my daddy loved fishing. Not having a son to fish with for eight years, I was his fishing buddy. He had his favorite “fishing holes” and one of them belonged to Mr. John Yates. The only problem was, we had to walk about a mile from where we parked our car to get to the pond.

Summertime visiting
