KOSCIUSKO —
If you had told me well over a year ago that my twitter account would help me not only disperse the news but get a few tips and reminders in return – I would say “No, way!”
Case in point – the Wesson bank robbery with the Attala County connection (See Page 1A) told to me by a follower on Twitter, and through the months I have heard about other news items while being on the social networking site reading others “tweets.”
Twitter has been described as a social networking and microblogging service, enabling its users to send and read other users' messages called tweets.
Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the user's profile page. Tweets are publicly visible by default, however senders can restrict message delivery to their friends list.
The other social networking site, Facebook, has a greater following in our area but does not have the news following of Twitter.
Certainly, I find out bits and pieces of information on Facebook through status updates of friends in the area and through the comments on The Star-Herald’s Facebook fan page but sometimes it’s not quite as newsy.
Now more than ever, we are totally connected to each other through technology.
When covering a trial in Vaiden, I was able to quickly send the verdict out in mass through Twitter via my cell phone and right onto The Star-Herald’s web page.
Thanks to all the news tipsters that on some days make my job a little easier and thanks to all that share their input.
That’s what makes The Star-Herald great – You our readers and Twitter followers.

Can ‘good’ news sell the newspaper?
As the saying goes – “If it bleeds, it leads.” The “hard stuff” – murders, wrecks, fires, deaths and the like – has been selling newspapers and upping the ratings of television stations for years.

On Getting ‘Stranded’
Beth and I were in Kosciusko last week for our semiannual visit to the dentist. As we rounded the corner from West Adams onto North Madison, there she stood in all her refurbished splendor: The Strand Theater!

Fear of Big Red canceled fishing
I have said before that my daddy loved fishing. Not having a son to fish with for eight years, I was his fishing buddy. He had his favorite “fishing holes” and one of them belonged to Mr. John Yates. The only problem was, we had to walk about a mile from where we parked our car to get to the pond.

Summertime visiting
I was always so excited for summer break to come about because that meant that I could begin my visits to my cousin’s houses out in the country. I loved to spend several days with my aunt and uncle and three cousins in the Hebron community. I would always go during their revival time and we would go every night.

Parlez-vous francais?
Absolutely not! Some of my Southern English is so drawn out with my Southern accent that some cannot understand me at all times.

Bacon accident
My husband loves bacon. But only if it’s cooked in the oven at 425 degrees. It comes out in about 20 minutes crispy and crunchy.

Memories of The Strand
The Strand Theatre was so important to me and my life during my childhood. I was given 50 cents a week for an allowance and all of it would go to my Saturday movie time.
