Meet the Staff:
 


JOSEPH BROWN, editor/publisher

Joseph Brown was named editor/publisher of The Star-Herald in April 2016. As publisher, he is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the newspaper. He has experience in advertising and editorial over an eight-year newspaper career. His most recent stint was as the city editor of The Paris News in Paris, Texas. He was also previously the advertising director/sports editor/ assistant managing editor at The Dover Times in Dover, Arkansas.

 


 


DAPHNE DABBS, bookkeeper

Daphne Dabbs joined the Star-Herald staff in 1985 and through several acquisitions has maintained her employment in the business office.  She is responsible for the bookkeeping and circulation duties.  Daphne lives in Kosciusko.  She and her late husband, Datwin, have four daughters, Amber, Emily, Casey and Carrie, and 12 precious grandchildren.

 


 

NANCY GREEN, lifestyles editor

Since 1955, Nancy has been a member of The Star-Herald staff in positions ranging from first duties as a teletypesetter to her current job as Lifestyles Editor. She has seen a complete revolution in newspapers through the advancement of technology. She has experienced progress in providing a service of keeping the community abreast of its happenings. She is a native of Attala County, a graduate of French Camp Academy and Clark Memorial College. She was married to Charles Green for 42 years prior to his death in 2002.

 


 


STAN BEALL, sports editor

As sports editor, Stan is responsible for the content and layout of the sports section of The Star-Herald.  Being an avid sports fan and former high school and junior college athlete, the ‘love for the game’ brought Stan back to the sidelines and dugouts as an award-winning freelance sports photographer and writer.  He began taking photos for The Star-Herald in 2006, and after a 12-year career in law enforcement and seven years in sales, Stan became the sports editor in 2012.  Stan still freelances for several publications in both words and pictures, but his main focus is to bring the highest quality sports section to this community that gives our student-athletes and ‘weekend warriors’ the recognition they deserve.  He lives in Ethel with his wife, Tammy, and has three sons, Parker, Ryan and Hayden, who keep him equally as busy with sporting events of their own.

 


 

DAVID CASTEEL, advertising representative

David Casteel joined the staff of The Star-Herald in October 2016 as an advertising representative. Casteel has been a mainstay in the community with over 40 years of sales experience. Most recently, he spent 25 years at Central Office Supply in Kosciusko. David is an active member of First United Methodist Church in Kosciusko. David and his wife Beverly have resided in Kosciusko for 25 years. The have one son, Russell, and daughter-in-law Callie who live in Tennessee. 

 

 

JENNIFER McCASKILL, graphic designer

Jennifer McCaskill joined the staff of The Star-Herald in October 2013 as a graphic designer. She is an Attala County native. McCaskill was homeschooled from preschool through 12th grade. She is a Holmes Community College graduate (AA Degree). McCaskill also has a bachelors degree in graphic design from Mississippi State University. She and her husband, Daniel (D.J.), live in the Hesterville community on a small farm they share with four dogs, three cats, a miniature horse, four goats, 2 rabbits and 42 chickens.
