Brandon Landfair of Goodman, has been selected to serve as People To People (P2P) Student Ambassador to Australia in Summer, 2010. He is a seventh grade student at Old Dominion Christian School.
Brandon will represent: his current and former school (Goodman Pickens Elementary School- GPE, where the P2P process began), Walden Chapel United Methodist Church, the Goodman community, Holmes County, state, and nation in the Experience Australia Program during the summer of 2010.
Brandon was nominated for the program by sixth grade sponsors at Goodman Pickens Elementary School. His selection was based on recommendations from GPES sixth grade sponsors and Goodman community leaders and completion of a formal interview process. Brandon will attend approximately 12 hours of orientation classes in preparation for the trip as well as participate in a community service project.
Brandon, along with a delegation of 20 middle school students from central Mississippi, will explore the culture, people and sites of Australia. Experiences that he will encounter include snorkel the Great Barrier Reef with his delegation’s own marine biologist, immerse in the authentic culture and traditions of the country’s first people, learn to throw a boomerang, explore and understand the complexities of the area’s unique and fragile ecosystems on Frasier Island, and cruise the Sydney Harbor.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the trip will be the chance to participate in home stays where he will actually live with a family for two days in Tamworth, Australia.
Financial support from individuals or local businesses to aid in Brandon’s tuition and expenses are welcomed. For further information about the People to People Student Ambassador Program, access the Website at www.peopletopeople.com
