Melanie Newell, 2009 Oprah Winfrey Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year, competed in Jackson March 19-20 for the State Youth of the Year title.
Newell won second runner up against 14 competitors.
The Youth of the Year title is the highest honor a youth can receive in the Boys & Girls Club movement.
Newell wishes to thank the community for their support in preparation for the competition.

Goodman student selected Ambassador
Brandon Landfair of Goodman, has been selected to serve as People To People (P2P) Student Ambassador to Australia in Summer, 2010. He is a seventh grade student at Old Dominion Christian School.

- Two from Kosy on USM honor list The University of Southern Mississippi has released the president’s and dean’s lists for the spring semester.
- Attalan named STAR in Winona school Katy L. Greenlee has been named STAR (Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition) Student at Winona Christian School.
- Kosciusko Vocational students to compete for scholarships Two students from Kosciusko Vocational Center in Kosciusko are teaming up to test their automotive knowledge and technical skills against other top notch students statewide with more than $100,000 in scholarship dollars on the line and a shot to represent the state in a national contest later this summer.
