The Kosciusko Whippets traveled to Camden last Friday night to take on the Velma Jackson Falcons and came away with a 47-6 victory.
The Whippets jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead and took a 34-0 lead into the half after a 21-point, three touchdown outburst in the second quarter.
The Falcons would score early in the third quarter, but the Whippets found the end zone as well to lead 41-6 after three.
The Whippets would tack on another score late, PAT failed, to take the victory by a final score of 47-6.
“We came out ready to play from the opening whistle to the end, we played our most complete game,” said head coach Tyler Peterson. “We’re starting to get the right guys in the right places and they are starting to trust and do their jobs by not trying to do too much.” Offensively, the Whippets were led by quarterback Tim Wade who was 9-18 passing for 183 yards and three touchdowns while gaining 31 yards on the ground on six attempts, Jabri Selmon had 66 yards on 13 rushes with two touchdowns, Deavolon Edwards had 44 yards on five carries and Jerrell Jackson had 42 yards on nine touches. Jamari Roby caught four passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, Zach Quillen had three receptions for 28 yards and Rajheem Jamison had one 16-yard reception for a touchdown.
Offensively Peterson said the Whippets were a little smoother but still need to iron out a few plays that they are going to need come region play.
Defensively the Whippets were led by Darrius Morgan with six tackles, Orlando Hill with five tackles and two assists, Kendrick Pittman with five tackles, one quarterback sack and one fumble recovery, Kyle Settlemir with three tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery Kelvin Riley as well as Harrison Griffin with one fumble recovery each.
“We really competed for four quarters and it showed,” added Peterson.
The Whippets will travel to Winona Friday night for a 7:30 kick.
“They’re going to be a really scrappy bunch and they’ll fight you to the end,” Peterson said. “I expect a really hard fought game.”
