The Whippets traveled to Houston last Friday night in a Region 4-4A contest to determine playoff seeding and lost to the Hilltoppers 38-10.
The Whippets are now 4-7 overall and 2-3 in region play.
In losing this ballgame the Whippets will be seeded fourth and will have to play number one seed Itawamba AHS Friday night at 7 p.m. in Fulton.
Houston quickly got on the board in the first quarter and led 7-0.
The Hilltoppers would tack on two more touchdowns in the second quarter, but not before Kosy added a touchdown and an Allen Vasquez field goal to pull within 11 of the Hilltoppers, 21-10, going into the half.
Unfortunately the Whippets would not score in the second half and Houston kicked a field goal in the third quarter and scored another touchdown in the fourth to increase their lead, and final score, to 38-10.
“We didn’t play our best, made some mistakes early on, and I thought Houston was much more physical than we were,” said head coach Tyler Peterson. “Houston really came out on both sides of the ball and were really aggressive.”
Offensively the Whippets were led by quarterback Tim Wade who was 7-20 passing for 186 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions while rushing for 21 yards on just two carries.
Jerrell Jackson had 43 yards on four carries while Jabri Selmon had 38 yards on 15 carries.
Jamari Roby had two receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown, Kelvin Riley had three receptions for 38 yards and Jackson added another 64 yards on just two catches.
The Whippets overall rushed for 120 yards while throwing for another 186 yards for 306 yards of total offense.
Defensively the Whippets were led by Orlando Hill with 10 tackles, Mitchell Myer with nine tackles while Brian Carter and Austin Arnold registered seven stops each.
“Win or lose, you have to regroup–it’s a new week and a new opponent, it’s a clean slate either way,” added Peterson. “Proud to be moving on this week and into the playoffs, we are looking forward to the challenge.”
