ETHEL —

The 2012 Lady Tiger softball season came to an end on Saturday when they lost to Nanih Waiya in two games, 6-0 and 9-0.

In both games the Lady Tigers got themselves in a hole early with uncharacteristic errors and were never able to put hits together to get back in either ballgame.

Haley Breazeale pitched both games and walked only two batters.

Taylor Hannah and Shelby Varnes led the Lady Tigers in the hitting department with Hannah recording three hits and a walk in the series.

Lauren Bouchillon, Juliyah Erving, Lindsey McNeal and Brooke Self all recorded hits but the Lady Tigers could never put two hits together and were unable to score a run all day.  Defensively the Lady Tigers played well for all but two innings.

“Hitting has been a problem for us all year.  Defense and pitching have been our strong suits,” said head coach Chris Schuster.  “We’re a ball control, timely hitting team that can’t get down early.”

The Lady Tigers ended the season with a record of 15-8 and were region champions for the third straight year.

“We have had a great run here at Ethel,” added Schuster.  “The girls and I were together four years and in that time we won 58 games, three district championships, went to the playoffs four straight years, and won two playoff series.  The girls really worked hard and committed themselves to the program and I would like to thank the girls, their parents and the community for their support throughout these last four years.”
