Tigers go 1-2 during break

ETHEL — The Ethel Tigers traveled to Meridian over spring break holidays and played three games.  The Tigers took on Scott Central and Forest last Tuesday, defeating Scott Central 11-3 before falling to Forest 15-9, and finished up with Simpson Academy on Wednesday, losing 4-0 pushing their season record to 7-5.

In the opening game of the tournament the Tigers defeated Scott Central 11-3 and Blake McKinley got the win.

McKinley only gave up one earned run on three hits while striking out seven.  Tyson Steen finished the game on the hill for the Tigers.

Ethel started slow offensively against Scott Central but were able to push five runs across in the fifth inning to seal the win.

Guyton Lindsay and Parker Beall both had multiple hits while Ryan McKinley, Adam Myers, Steen and Brandon Weeks each collected hits as well.

The Tigers then took on Forest in their second game of the day, losing 15-9, and both Tyson Steen and Brandon Weeks were unable to hold the Forest offense down.  After falling behind early the Tigers never gave in, pushing nine runs across in the game’s final three innings.

Guyton Lindsay, Justin Self and Parker Beall all had multiple hits while Ryan and Blake McKinley, Jay Ramage, Adam Myers and Lowden McAdams all collected singles in the contest as well.

The Tigers traveled back to Meridian last Wednesday and faced off with undefeated Simpson Academy.

Ryan McKinley got the start for the Tigers and struck out 10 hitters while giving up only four hits in 6.1 innings.

The game was tied at 0-0 in the sixth inning when a rash of Ethel errors paved way for the Simpson Academy victory.

The Tigers weren’t able to muster in offense on the day with Guyton Lindsay and Adam Myers collecting the only two hits of the game.

“What a well played game,” said Tiger head coach Chris Schuster.  “You hate to see one of the teams lose, I just wish it would have been a hit that beat us.”

The Tigers traveled to Greenville Tuesday night to take on Greenville St. Joe and will open district play Thursday night at home against McAdams at 6 p.m.

The Tigers will then travel to Hartfield next Tuesday night for 5 p.m. contest.
