ETHEL —
The Ethel Lady Tigers increased their record to 10-6 and 4-0 in district play with a win over French Camp Monday night by a score of 14-2. Haley Breazeale pitched five strong innings allowing five hits, while walking only one batter. Shelby Varnes had two big hits for the Lady tigers hitting a three-run homerun that broke the game open. Lauren Bouchillon and Lindsey McNeal both had multiple hits. Taylor Hannah, Juliyah Erving, Avery Bouchillon, Brooklyn Whitman and Madilin Sims all had hits for the Lady Tigers.
Last week the Lady Tigers had a huge win over the Weir Lady Lions. Erving had two homeruns in the game, one of which tied the game late at three. The game went into extra innings with the Lady tigers manufacturing the winning run with some precise hitting. McNeal and Breazeale both sacrificed themselves to score the winning run. Brook Shields had a key hit in the ballgame.
Against the Lady Bulldogs from McAdams the Lady Tigers pounded out 15 hits including two homeruns to take the victory 26-9. Breazeale, once again, pitched for the Lady Tigers to get the win.
Next week, Ethel will have three home games to finish the season with district games against Weir and French Camp on Tuesday and Thursday. With the win over French Camp, Ethel clinched their fourth consecutive trip to the state playoffs and will play Weir to try and win their straight district championship on Tuesday night.
“The girls have worked real hard this year,” said Ethel head slow-pitch softball coach Chris Schuster. “They have earned an opportunity to win the district again and that doesn’t come without hard work.”
