CLEVELAND —
Only three outs separated Kosciusko from a trip to the Dixie Youth 9-year-old State Tournament.
Kosy led Philadelphia 8-6 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Philly struck for three runs to claim the win and take third in the Dixie Youth North Regional played in Cleveland, and earning a trip to state in the process.
"We left all we had on the field in this game," said Kosciusko coach Steve Rawson. "They played as a team all day."
Landon Rawson, who hit .545 for the tournament, had a single and triple in the game against Philly, while Lake Melton, Daulton Lindsey, Cullen Cummins, Lance Wilson, Nathan Taylor and La'Mir Harmon each had a single. Lindsey, Cummins, Lance Wilson. Isaac Moore, Rawson and Addison Ray each had RBIs, while Jon Deason, Skyler Estes and Hunter Chennault each picked up a walk. Lindsey pitched a complete game for Kosciusko, walking only one.
Kosy found itself in the hole on the first day of the tournament, dropping a 13-3 decision as Cleveland scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning. Lindsey had Kosy's only hit in the game, while Cummins, Ray and Taylor each scored a run.
Kosciusko came from behind in the second game to score two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 9-7 win over Yazoo City.
Wilson tossed 5.1 strong innings for the winners, striking out eight. Lindsey came in with the bases loaded to coax Yazoo City into a pair of ground outs to earn the save.
Rawson had two singles and three RBIs for Kosy, while Harmon popped a double and Lindsey had a single and RBI.
Kosy scored six times in the fifth inning to take a 13-7 win over Amory and Lindsey recorded his second save of the day, while Melton earned the win. Deason had a single and scored three runs for Kosciusko, while Melton had a single and scored two runs. Chennault, Moore, Taylor and Estes scored a run each for Kosy.
Cleveland scored 12 runs in the top of the first to take a 16-2 win and push Kosy into the third place game. Rawson had two hits for Kosy, while Deason and Rawson each scored a run.
