The Durant Tigers took their show on the road last Friday night to McAdams and did not disappoint, winning the Region 6 contest 65-34.
The Tigers jumped on the Bulldogs early and led 22-10 after one quarter of play.
The Tigers scoring didn’t slow down in the second quarter as well and they outscored the Bulldogs once again 22-6 to take a 44-16 lead into the half.
The third quarter was not as offensive for the Tigers, but they still outscored the host team 15-6 to take a 59-22 lead into the game’s final stanza.
The Bulldogs were able to find a little defense in the fourth quarter and were able to outscore the Tigers 12-6 to push the final score to 65-34.
The leading scorers for the Tigers were Theodore Haynes with 14 points, Demario Trotter with 11 points, Clay Roby with nine points and Denzel Rodgers with eight points. “We played with more intensity tonight,” said Tiger head coach Kenyon Ross. “I don’t know if it was because of who we were playing––these kids really get up for the rivalry. We didn’t play like this the other night (January 22) against Hartfield. We played with a lot of energy and it really helps when you get your starting guard (Demario Trotter) back from injury––he hasn’t played in almost a month.”
The Tigers are now 6-1 in Region 6 play.
The leading scorers for the Bulldogs were Deontae Sellers with 10 points, DeAndre Lemon with nine points and Jeffery Morris with four points.
“We just didn’t play with effort tonight,” said Bulldog head coach Carl Hathorn. “We can play better than what we did tonight, we just didn’t have the effort. I do have a young team, but I’m just trying to teach them to play a full 32 minutes and not buckle at the first sign of adversity. We’re just going to keep plowing the field and try to get better.”
The Tigers hosted Sebastopol Tuesday night and will then travel to Sebastopol next Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. contest.
The Bulldogs hosted Mississippi School for the Deaf Tuesday night and will travel to Pelahatchie Friday night for a 6 p.m. contest.
