KOSCIUSKO —
The Kosciusko Whippets played Grenada last Tuesday in the Winona Tournament and lost the contest 10-4.
Kosy then traveled to Meridian for another invitational tournament on Wednesday and fell to Newton County 6-5 and Quitman 6-3.
The Whippets are now 7-5 on the year as they began district play Tuesday night at Houston.
On a stormy Monday, the Whippets were able to get their game in with the Grenada Chargers in the Winona Tournament.
Ben Hudson got the start for the Whippets and pitched four innings giving up seven hits and eight runs, five earned, while striking out two and walking none.
Patrick Gowan pitched two innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while walking none.
The leading hitters for the Whippets were Connor Hill with three hits and two runs scored, Nicholas Frank with two hits and one run scored, Tim Wade with two hits and one RBI, Wesley Dew with one hit, one run scored and one RBI, Ben Hudson with one hit and one RBI and Logan Bell with one hit.
The Whippets found themselves in an early 4-2 hole after one complete and trailed 7-2 after three.
The Whippets scored single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, but it would not be enough to overcome the Chargers, who scored in every inning except the second and seventh.
The Whippets traveled to Meridian on Wednesday to play two games. In the first game of the day the Whippets fell to Newton County 6-5.
Brodie Threet took the hill for the Whippets and pitched four innings.
Threet gave up five runs, three earned, on five hits while walking three and striking out three.
Patrick Gowan pitched two innings and gave up one run on three hits while striking out three and walking one.
The leading hitters for the Whippets were Logan Bell with two hits and a run scored, Ben Hudson with two hits and a run scored, Peyton Overstreet with two hits and a run scored with one RBI, Connor Hill with one hit and one run scored, Wesley Dew with one hit, Eli Leathers with one run scored and an RBI and Austin Parker with one run scored.
The Whippets played Quitman shortly after and dropped a hard-fought contest to the Panthers 6-3.
Dylan Gentry got the start for the Whippets and pitched the entire contest, giving up six earned runs on 15 hits while striking out three and walking one.
The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Logan Bell with two hits and one run scored, Brodie Threet with one hit and one run scored, Austin Parker with one hit, Peyton Overstreet with one RBI and Ben Hudson with one run scored.
The Whippets traveled to Houston Tuesday night to begin district play and will host Houston Friday night at 5 p.m. The Whippets will then travel to Pearl on Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest before returning to district play next Tuesday night when they travel to Leake Central for a 5 p.m. contest.

To the wire, Kosy defeats Braves
The Kosciusko Whippets were in good shape after Friday night’s 8-0 win over the visiting Tishomingo Braves, but a set-back in Iuka on Saturday, a 3-2 loss, put the fast dogs’ season in jeopardy.

Tigers finish season 15-13
The Ethel Tigers were fresh off a thrilling first round sweep of French Camp when they traveled to Stringer on Saturday for game one of the best-of-three series.
The Tigers would drop game one 5-3.
Game one had been pushed from Thursday to Saturday due to inclement weather, pushing game two to Monday night in Ethel, to which the Tigers fell once again, 7-2. -
Kosy moves to third round
The Kosciusko Whippets had a bitter taste in their mouths from 2012’s playoff series loss to New Albany in three games.
That taste is clearly better now, and New Albany was once again the foe. -
Kosy boys and girls track head to State meet
The Kosciusko boys and girls track teams participated in the North State Track meet at Pontotoc on May 4 and will be sending one boys and four girls to the Class 4A State Meet at Pearl on May 13
